Purchase a sharps container from your local pharmacy or check with your health care provider to see if they can provide a sharps container. In place of a sharps container, you may use a leak proof, shatterproof, puncture resistant container with a screw top lid, such as an empty laundry detergent bottle. No glass, aluminum, cardboard, or metal coffee cans. Do not recap, bend, or break needles or lancets. Secure the screw top on the container and label it "SHARPS, Dispose of Properly" with a waterproof marker on the container or on masking tape over the container. Disposal service is free of charge to Miami County residents.
